First Post
There is so much significance about a blog's first post, so I figured I'd make it as mundane and boring as possible to get it out of the way.
I have so much to write, or I have absolutely nothing to write. I'm not sure, but either way we're going to find out. The important part is that I'm writing, which I feel called to do somehow.
This'll be both my reintroduction, and my homecoming.
Before I finished my creative writing degree, I sat down with my professor, a bearded sixty-something single guy who had published multiple novels and poetry books, in his living room over a glass of wine to ask him how I could grow up to be like him. I had invested much into writing up to that point -- the brunt of my college career, a great deal of emotion, and even more whiskey -- and the moment was thick with expectation. He settled in, considering.
"Ryan, first off you're a very good writer," he said. "The problem is you have nothing to say that hasn't already been said."
It's been over 10 years since I've written anything. I guess we'll see if that's changed.
